  1. On the bounce home page, click the 'Download Installer' button.
  2. Double click the 'setup.exe' file that you just downloaded.
  3. If you do not have .NET Framework 4.5 installed, simply follow the instructions on screen to download and install it
  4. If you're using Windows 7, click the 'Run Anyway' button that appears. If you're using Windows 8, click the blue 'More Info' link on the popup screen, and then click 'Run Anyway'.
  5. A small window will appear which downloads the application data. Bounce will start momentarily.
  6. When you see a screen entitled 'Hello', select a username following the instructions on-screen.
  7. Click the 'Begin' button on the bottom-right hand side of the screen.
  8. Read the instructions on the screen, then click 'Finish'
  9. Make sure the 'Search' tab on the top-left of the screen is selected, and search for the files you want to download

  1. What does the 'Bounce' option do? When you choose to 'Bounce' a file, the server keeps a track of the file you requested for you. If, for example, you chose to Bounce ubuntu-10.04.iso, as soon as the file is available on line, it will be downloaded to your computer automatically. If you're not online, we'll copy the file to your friends' computers, so that you're likely to get the file the next time you come online.
  2. When I try to search for something, a message tells me that it was unable to talk to the search service. How do I fix this? This usually means that you are not connected to the server. Check if the status icon on the bottom-left of the screen shows a connected status. If it doen, this is probably a serious error - let us know. If you're not connected, see this answer for details.
  3. The status message on the bottom-left of the screen says 'Connecting' but never connects. What do I do? Click on the settings tab on the top of the window. Make sure that the server address matches what is shown on the Bounce homepage. If the addresses match, the server might be down. Try connecting again in a couple of hours.
  4. My friends can't see the files in my shared folders. How do I make them visible? If the sync icon on the bottom of the Bounce window shows an error icon, click the 'Force Rescan' button on the settings tab. If you just added the files to your shared folder, or just added a new shared folder on the settings tab, click the 'Force Rescan' button on the settings tab to tell Bounce to re-index your shared folders. If these files have been on your system since before you started Bounce, check to see if the sync icon on the bottom of the Bounce window shows a check-mark. If it does, let us know. Otherwise, if you see that icon is still showing 'Indexing', see this answer.
  5. Why doesn't my sync status ever change from Indexing to OK? Creating an index of your shared folders is a time-consuming process. Bounce must analyze each of the files in your shared folders - the bigger the file, the longer it takes to analyze. The Indexing icon means that the files in your shared folder haven't yet been processed. You'll need to keep Bounce running until it manages to index all your files. If you exit, the indexing will resume from where you left off. When each of the files has been processed, Bounce will sync the changes with the server and display a check mark.
  6. The uploads counter shows a number that isn't zero, but I can't see any uploads! This is by design. Uploads aren't visible in the user-interface. We assume that all files in your shared folders are available to all users of the network.
  7. Where's the option to pause a download? We haven't yet built that, sorry.
  8. I'm getting really slow download speeds. How do I make them faster? If either you or the person you're downloading from is on wi-fi, your transfer speed will be slower than a fully wired connection. You can generally speed up your transfers by using Ethernet instead of wireless.
  9. None of these FAQs help me, what do I do? Try restarting Bounce. If that doesn't work, look at the 'Additional Support' section below.
